[7a-C14-4] A Long-Period Fiber-Grating Temperature Sensor Using a Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser
Keywords:long-period grating, surface-emitting laser, temperature sensor
Long-period grating (LPG) sensors have advantages of various sensitivities are possible and refractive-index sensing is also possible. Although an optical spectrum analyzer was conventionally necessary, here we use a low-cost vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) as a single-longitudinal-mode wavelength tunable laser with a photodiode as a detector. A 1.3 μm VCSEL was used, and the LPG was fabricated with a tilted mask method to tune the wavelength. Temperature sensing was performed, and the root mean square error was 1.2 degrees centigrade.
