[7a-C16-2] Graphene Photo-Oxidation Controlled by a Self-Assembled Monolayer

Keywords:graphene, photo-oxidation, electron density modulation

Graphene is an ultimately thin material, which enables us to modulate its electron density by the dipole moments of a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) formed on the supporting substrate. Hence, oxidation reactions, whose reactivity depends on the electron density, are expected to be controlled by the SAM-induced modulation of the electron density. In this study, we employed two types of SAM molecules which have oppositely oriented dipole moments, and the photo-oxidation reactivity of graphene was found to be largely modulated by the orientation of the SAM dipole moment.
