Light modulation materials, capable to change transmittance of light under external stimulus, have attracted much attention for optical applications such as smart window, anti-glare film, etc. To achieve such applications, one of the most promising materials are liquid crystals including a small amount of dye molecules, which enables one to generate nonlinear optical effect efficiently. Until now, no one reported nonlinear optical effect in liquid crystal systems with depolarized light. This limitation strictly constraints the applicable situation of the systems. In this study, to circumvent the issue, we investigated photoresponsive behavior by irradiating a liquid crystal system with depolarized light, generated from a laser source equipped with depolarizer.
