Contactless IC tags consisting of printed organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) are expected to reduce the manufacturing cost and enable the integration with a variety of sensors. However, the realization of the organic contactless IC tags that meet the existing standards faces difficult problems in the device performance and the high integration. In this study, we propose a new approach to realize the organic contactless IC tags using pulse width modulation (PWM) method. Based on the experimental data and simulations, we clarify the OTFT performances required for the PWM organic contactless IC tags.
