Recently, Fano resonance arising from plasmonic nanostructures has attracted attention in order to improve sensitivity in sensors and light emission intensity. However, complicated processes are necessary to fabricate nanostructures and these processes prevent practical applications. Then we have focused on a metal-dielectric multilayer system. This system allows coupling between a surface plasmon polariton (SPP) mode as a continuous mode and a planar waveguide (PWG) mode as a discrete mode and then Fano resonance is excited. We studied the Fano line shape and the quality factor with a structure which consists of inorganic dielectric multilayer deposited on an Al layer.
