[7p-A411-12] Development of a Portable Spectrometer for Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance Using a Class-D Amplifier with Dual Power Supplies
Keywords:Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance, Land Mine Inspection, Class-D Amplifier
Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) is one of the magnetic resonance phenomena for the nucleus whose spin is larger than 1. It is caused by the irradiation of an external AC magnetic field at a particular resonance frequency against a target substance. It allows the non-destructive and remote inspection of the target substance such as explosives or illicit drugs by detecting the NQR signal from the excited substance. We have developed the portable NQR inspection system. However, the previous system could detect NQR signals only from the substance put at short distance. In this study, the antenna voltage was increased by applying a class-D amplifier with dual power supplies to the portable NQR system. As the result, for 100g RDX, which is one of the explosives, the detectable distance was much improved to 9 cm for 20 seconds measuring time.
