Nonanuclear lanthanide cluster consists of nine oxygen-bridged lanthanide ions and organic ligands that surrounds the cluster core. In this cluster, an efficient energy transfer between lanthanide ions as well as intense luminescence by energy transfer from organic ligands is expected to occur. In this study, we found that in the nonanuclear Tb clusters, energy transfer between Tb ions plays an important role in enhancing the luminescence efficiency.
