Ni magnetic nanowire arrays can be used inside the magnetic disc of a hard disk to further enhance the storage capacity of a hard disk by using perpendicular magnetic recording which increases the recording density. Other than that, they can also be used as a sensor due to their characteristic to respond to a change in the magnetic field based on their shape. Ni magnetic nanowires were fabricated inside the porous alumina template which has thickness of 50 ± 1 μm and pore diameter of 80 ± 8 nm. The wires consists of three layers which are Cu layer, Ni layer and Cu layer. They were fabricated by using pulse electrodeposition in two separated solution which are 0.2 M NiCl2, 0.5 M H3BO3 and 0.2 M CuSO4, 0.5 M H3BO3. After the wires were deposited, their magnetic properties, such as magnetization and magnetoresistance were measured and they were observed by using SEM to analyze their structure.
