[8a-A202-7] Surface band bending of photocatalytic TiO₂

The binding energy of a surface electron differs from that of an inner (bulk) electron, therefore the energy band gradually bends toward the surface. The energy-band bending is one important factor for the photocatalytic activity of TiO₂. As far as we know, the experimental evaluation of the magnitude of the bending has never been reported. We report the first experimental study of the surface band bending of TiO₂ investigated by hard X-ray photoemission spectroscopy.
