▲ [8a-A503-11] Ultrafast Optogenetic Control of Neuronal Firing with Chronos
Keywords:optogenetics, channelrhodopsin, neuronal switching
A detailed theoretical analysis of low-power ultrafast optogenetic control of neuronal firing with Chronos has been presented, based on an integrated circuit model. Chronos, the new blue and green (470 nm and 530 nm) light drivable channelrhodopsin, exhibits faster kinetics than those of previous channelrhodopsins and yet is effectively more light sensitive. Theoretical results are in excellent agreement with recently reported experimental results. The effect of excitation wavelengths (470 nm and 530 nm), pulse irradiance (0.05-20 mW/mm2), pulse-width (1 - 5 ms) and frequency (5 - 60 Hz) has been studied in detail and the performance of Chronos compared with ChR2. The analysis is important to optically control neuronal firing and understand brain dynamics for medical applications.
