Fresnel liquid crystal (LC) deflector is composed of interdigitated electrodes and Fresnel type of multi-step blazes. In our previous study, maximum deflection angle of ±1.3 deg. was achieved with the blaze pitch of 0.2 mm and the LC layer thickness of 30 μm. However, when the device is set in front of the camera and applied for optical image stabilization (OIS), some haze which supposed to be occurred from the scattering of the transparent beam was found to be observed in the captured images. In this study, for the purpose of investigation and suppression, we have measured and evaluated the haze with the integrating-sphere photometer and discussed the dependence of applied voltages on the LC material, blaze width, driving frequency and other factors. Finally we have discussed the origin of the haze in the Fresnel LC deflector and also how to suppress that and to maintain the original quality of images.
