▲ [8a-PB2-7] Observation of Optical Bistability in Oppositely Directed Coupler

We demonstrate theoretically that directional coupler with one channel positive index and the other with negative index can show a novel optical bistability. This property arises due to effective feedback mechanism as a result of opposite directionality of the phase velocity and energy flow in the negative index materials.
