[14p-413-4] Towards optical pulling of particles with guided fields

I discuss recent results concerning optical pulling ("tractor beam" effect) using the guided modes of an optical nanofiber. In particular, I show that polarizable particles may be trapped outside the nanofiber and pulled against the photon flow towards the light source. Connections to the emerging field of nanophotonic pulling forces and our recent experiments manipulating nanoparticles on nanofibers will be discussed.
