[14p-B5-11] Colloidal Crystal Growth and Stacking Faults

Keywords:silica colloidal crystal, stacking fault, crystal growth

Stacking faults (SFs) in disk shape bulk silica colloidal crystals are examined extensively. The SFs are parallel in each crystallites forming the bulk material. However the directions of the SFs in any crystallites are slanted to the growth direction, not parallel to the bottom surface. This suggests that SFs may contribute to the fcc crystal growth process.
