MgO is composed of light elements and expected as a host material for scintillators emitting luminescence under charged particles excitation. However, the difference in ionic radius between Mg2+ and the rare earth ion is large. In the case of single crystal, it is difficult to obtain a homogeneous transparent body due to the segregation of rare earth ions. In the present study, Eu-doped MgO transparent ceramics were prepared in order to obtain homogeneous body and evaluated on scintillation properties.
