[15a-311-10] Formation of Herring Bone Structure in Crystal E of Liquid Crystalline Materials and Their Carrier Transport Properties
Keywords:organic semiconductor, liquid crystal, charge transport
Charge transport property in organic semiconductor is a consequence of averaged behaviors of electron charge transfer, electronic states and their disorders controlled by structural order and thermal fluctuation of their molecules. In this study we focus on the electronic charge transport in SmE phase of liquid crystalline materials although the X-ray diffractometry shows that SmE phase is a kind of crystalline phase forming herringbone alignment of aromatic core moiety. Using molecular dynamics simulations and quantum chemical calculation of some particular molecules, we indicate that structural randomness in SmE phase accept wide distribution of transfer integrals and their averaged values are not different from each other depending on their chemical structure. This promises relatively high mobility up to 1cm2/Vs irrespective of their chemical structures, while the reorganization energy and energetic disorder provides different mobility in SmE phase.
