[15a-E205-1] Lasing characteristics of elliptical double-hole photonic-crystal lasers

Photonic-crystal surface-emitting lasers, in which a 2D photonic crystal is utilized as a laser cavity, are promising to achieve high-power and high beam quality. In this paper, for large-area single-mode operation, we propose a elliptical double-hole structure with a different height for each air hole. Peak-power of ~4.5 W and nearly diffraction-limited beam-quality was achieved with a lasing area of 300×300 μm2.
