The FeVSb half-Heusler phase (HH-phase) consisting solely of cheap, no-toxic elements was studied as a new thermoelectric material. By uses of strategic guidance1 and theoretical calculation, we determined that the FeVSb HH-phase was expected to possess a large figure of merit ZT = S2/ρκ exceeding 0.8 with p-type behavior (Fig. 1.a). Despite the prediction, the reported material only showed n-type behavior2 (Fig. 2.a). In this study, we tried to reduce the electron concentration of the FeVSb HH-phase by substituting pentavalent V with tetravalent Ti for optimizing the ZT value.
