A poly(vinylcarbazole) thin film that was covalently tethered on a metal surface was obtained by vapor-deposition polymerization of N-vinylcarbazole on an Al surface that was modified with a self-assembled monolayer having thiol terminal unit. The tethering was achieved by thiol-ene reaction assisted by UV irradiation. This technique is promising for controlling the metal/organic interface.
