[15p-423-5] Dealing with Vacuum Discharge Experiments in Middle and High School Science Textbooks in Japan

Shinichiro Kado1 (1.IAE, Kyoto Univ.)

Keywords:vacuum discharge, glow discharge, Crookes tube

Vacuum discharge, more appropriately "gaseous discharge" in the context of modern science and technology, appears in the middle and high school science textbooks. This phenomenon played an important role in the dawn of atomic physics, radiation, plasma physics, etc. The author proposes the usefulness of the vacuum discharge demonstration experiments for the science education, introducing his activities at "Super Science High-School (SSH)" or public lectures.
