Optical nano-microcavities, which confine light in a tiny space strongly and enhance the interaction between light and matters, are employed for the applications such as optical signal processing and quantum optics. Among them, a silica toroidal microcavity and a photonic crystal nanocavity have the highest Q/V values which is the figure of merit of optical nano-microcavities. In this study, we demonstrated the coupling between a toroidal microcavity and a photonic crystal waveguide toward the formation of coupled cavity system consists of a toroidal microcavity and a photonic crystal nanocavity.
