The diameter and refractive index of a cylinder that are subwavelength in diameter have been measured. The cylinder that is made from a spider silk illuminated by a plane-polarized laser of wavelength 660 nm at normal incident. The angular distribution of the light intensity scattered by the cylinder is measured and fitted using theoretical calculations based on the corresponding model. The fitting results have lead to the optimum values and uncertainly ranges of the index and the diameter. A field emission scanning electron microscope has confirmed the diameter from the optical estimation.
