Membrane fusion is one of key processes in material and signal transport into and out of cells. We investigated fusion of proteoliposomes, crude membrane extracts from CHO and HEK293 cells, into supported lipid bilayer systems using fluorescence microscope and atomic force microscope. Microdmains in lipid bilayers were key factors in the fusion process.
