We developed a new scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) apparatus that can apply photo-excited STM and STM photoemission spectroscopy on a same organic solar cell specimen, to visualize nanoscale variation of generation efficiency on the solar cell due to the inhomogeneity of the organic thin films by photo-excited STM and to clarify the physical factor that limits the efficiency by combining photo-excited STM and STM photoemission spectroscopy. In this presentation, we report the recent result obtained by the STM on P3HT:PCBM bulk hetero-junction organic thin-film solar cell.
