High-performance and low-cost optical coupling between silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and single-mode optical fibers (SMFs) has been demanded toward high-volume commercialization of Si photonics chips. We design surface optical couplers based on vertically-curved Si waveguide for the high numerical aperture (HNA) SMFs.
