▲ [18p-221B-3] Terahertz Wireless Communication using Resonant Tunneling Diodes with Radio-over-Fiber Technology
Keywords:resonant tunneling diodes, terahertz, communications
Resonant tunneling diodes (RTD) are attracting attention as compact low-power consumption terahertz devices operating at room temperature. An RTD features a characteristic negative differential conductance in its current-voltage curve and oscillation occurs when the negative differential conductance compensates for the antenna conductance. Here, we make a first demonstration of our proposal of an RTD transmitter modulator and receiver demodulator system with radio-over-fiber (RoF) source. An example application of the system will be RoF communication to a remote radio head followed by THz wireless communication. We recorded error-free transmission with the bit error rate less than 10 to the power of -11th at 1.5 Gbit/s over 7.5 cm distance.
