[18p-233-2] Development of high intensity laser system and its application to particle acceleration

Kiminori Kondo1 (1.KPST, QST)

Keywords:High peak power laser, laser acceleration

Petawatt class high peak power laser and its application of laser acceleration are explained. In QST, the focused intensity of 10^22 W/cm^2 has been achieved. Then the accelerated maximum proton energy has been observed to be over 50 MeV. Now QST has a plan to develop a compact heavy ion cancer therapy machine by applying this technlgy under JST-MIRAI project.
