A solution-processed thin film of pentacene is prepared from a solution-processed film of a solvent-soluble PEN precursor via a thermal treatment. In the present study, the mechanism of thermal conversion is investigated by using the IR pMAIRS technique. The conversion is found to comprise by two steps: 1) the conversion reaction of the precursor to PEN, and 2) the orientation change of PEN in the thin film.
