Edema involves swelling of the subcutaneous tissues by excess interstitial fluid and often accompanies pain and discomfort, which leads to lower quality of life. A device for quantitative evaluation of the degree of edema in the local site of the body can not only improve QOL but also enable the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we examined the relationship between the degree of edema and the electrical resistance through the body using a porous microneedle patch, and demonstrated the feasibility of local body water content monitoring.
