△ [19p-224B-9] Influence of Bundle Thickness Distribution and Pore Size Distribution on Tensile Strength of Single Wall Carbon Nanotube Films
Keywords:carbon nanotube, tensile strength, pore size distribution
Carbon nanotube (CNT)-based free-standing thin films are in high demand as switching or sensing elements in MEMS devices, ultrafiltration membranes, etc. In general, uniform structure reduces microscopic stress concentration in material and produce high mechanical strength. However, relation bundle and pore structure uniformity with mechanical strength for CNT film has not been studied sufficiently. Here, we show that the CNT bundle and pore structure uniformity are important to achieve a high mechanical strength. We also demonstrate the fabrication of macroscale (2-cm-diameter) free-standing ultrathin single-walled CNT films with thicknesses as low as 200 nm.We prepared single-walled CNT suspensions by ultrasonication using different liquid media. To investigate bundle thickness distribution, we carried out SEM observation on the CNT films. The pore-size distribution of the CNT films was estimated by mercury porosimetry. The film tensile testing was carried out.
