Designing the diffusive behavior, self-propulsion, and self-assembly of colloidal particles has possibility for new devices and modelling active dynamics in nature. Janus Particles (JPs) are one of the active colloidal particles which are formed with two hemispheres of different substances. JPs show rich function depending on selected material.
Here we present a study of silica JPs (3 mm in diameter) partially coated with a phase-change switching material, Ge2Sb2Te5. In the experiment, laser illumination and alternating electric field were applied to JPs in distilled water. We report the change of JP’s diffusivity by each of the external fields.
