Keywords:plasmon, Quantum Dots, thin metal layers

We observed enhancements or quenching of blue emissions from CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) on metal substrates. By using thin metal layers such as 15 nm-thick, emissions were reduced for QDs on silver which has surface plasmon (SP) resonance at visible wavelength, however increased for QDs on aluminum which has SP resonance at deep UV region. Further enhancements of blue emissions were obtained when the substrates were heated up to 200 degree C. The detail mechanism of enhanced emission was discussed based on the contributions of internal quantum efficiency, light extraction efficiency, and light absorption efficiency, respectively.
