Maze exploration using two-dimensional optical bstable devices is investigated. Exploration is acheved by wavefront propagation in the path region of the maze that is defined by patterned light irradiation. The velocity of wavefront propagation can be controlled by the light intensity, and even backward propagation (reduction mode) is realized by reducing light intensity suitably. This is an advantage of our device over other natural computing devices. Depending on the light intensity on the path and wall region of the maze, various operational modes of wavefront propagation appear in the device.
