Soft materials such as polymer materials and elastomers have attracted great attention, and application to soft robots and flexible devices is rapidly progressing. However, there are problems with mechanical properties such as durability, and it is required to understand deformation of soft materials in details. In this study, we analyzed the strain in the out-of-plane direction of bent soft materials by selective reflection of cholesteric liquid crystals.
