[20a-PB3-3] Terahertz wave detection by non-linear interaction with optical phase modulation

Keywords:terahertz

We have studied new terahertz wave detection using nonlinear optical effect.Photons behavior follows Manley-Rowe's relation in three-wave mixing in the second-order nonlinear optical process. In the case of terahertz wave generation by difference frequency generation, photons with high energy decrease, photons with low energy and terahertz photons increase. However, if terahertz photons are present at the incident interface, the photon transition is not necessarily in the direction of decreasing high-energy photons. This photons behavior is controlled by the phase of lights and is obtained by balance detection of two wavelength lights. The behavior changes only when lights and terahertz wave are coaxially incident, so this principle can be used for terahertz wave detection.
