▲ [20a-PB7-4] Enhanced near-infrared spectral performance in bismuth/erbium codoped aluminosilicate fibers by energy transfer for broadband application
キーワード:Optical fiber, Fiber telecommunication, Energy transfer
The energy transfer processes between bismuth active centers (BACs) and Er3+ in Bi/Er codoped fiber (BEDF) are investigated and, with clear experimental evidences, observed for the first time. Under 980 nm pumping, we observed an energy transfer occurring from Er3+ to BAC-Al in BEDF, which is evidenced by the enhanced NIR emission of BAC-Al (2.5 times) and lifetime (~720 µs) when compared with a bismuth doped fiber (BDF). In contrast, under 830 nm pumping, the spectral performance of Er3+ at 1536 nm in BEDF is found to benefit from BAC-Al→Er3+, confirmed by the markable increase in NIR emission, lifetime, and gain. The observations show that the codoping of Er in Bi-doped fibers could introduce significant changes to emission through ET processes and provides a promising approach for promoting the spectral performance (gain, laser efficiency) over the 1000-1600 nm range.
