We have studied novel fluoride neutron scintillators since around 2008, including Ce-doped LiCaAlF6 (LiCAF) single crystal, Eu-doped LiCAF single crystal, 3d transition metal-doped LiCAF single crystal, LiF/CaF2 eutectics, LiF: W, LiF-CeF3 complex fluoride ceramics, and Tb-doped LiCaAlF6. The neutron scintillator emits light by the neutron capture reaction of 6Li. The fluoride materials have an advantage that their lithium compounds are non-hygroscopic. Fluoride neutron scintillator is excellent in processability and it can be applied to neutron imaging test. In this presentation, we summarize the research results so far and also describe the future prospects.
