[20p-PB1-1] Surface Effect on the Phase Transition of Polyethylene Glycol
Keywords:Polyethylene glycol, Phase transition, Bistability
Polyethylene glycol exhibits bistability of the scattering solid phase and the transparent liquid phase, which is useful to control optical devices. Polyethylene glycol with the molecular weight of 600-6000 was enclosed in silicone rubber to examine how the bistability was affected by the sample volume or the interaction with the surrounding matrix. The bistable temperature range was found to extend by enclosure in the rubber.
