Keywords:Photopolymerization, Polymer, Molecular Alignment

Molecularly aligned liquid-crystalline polymer films enable one to develop high-performance materials in electronics, photonics, soft robotics and etc. Recently, a photoalignment method has attracted much attention due to its clean and non-contact process; however, the control of microscopic three-dimensional molecular alignment remains a challenge. To circumvent the critical issue, we have proposed a novel method to optically control molecular alignment by photopolymerization of monomers with unpolarized light. In this study, we fabricated monodomain liquid-crystalline polymer thin films with in-plane and out-of-plane alignment.
