Optical phonons in diamond are expected to be applied to quantum memories operating at room temperatures. In this study, we performed coherent control experiments on optical phonons in a single crystal diamond using a pump-probe type transient transmittance experiments. We irradiated a pair of phase locked sub-ten femtosecond pulses on diamond to excite and control coherent optical phonons. The two pump pulses are generated using the Michelson interferometer and their interval was controlled with a 0.5-fs step. The interference of the coherent phonons was observed.
