We measured coherent optical phonons (LO phonon with 8.7 THz) in a GaAs single crystal via transient reflectivity using a pump-probe technique with femtosecond optical pulses. The phonon amplitude was coherently controlled by using a pair of phase locked pump pulses, in which their polarization is orthogonal each other in order to suppress an optical interference. The interval of the pump pulses was controlled with a 0.3-fs step. The initial phase phonon interference was also studied.
