[21p-222-2] Thermionic emission from sharpened ion-conducting glasses

Ion emission was successfully observed from sharpened ion-conducting glasses by applying a high voltage. A good linear correlation is obtained by using Schottky plot for ion emission from oxide glasses, suggesting the ion emission from the tip of oxide glasses is expressed by Schottky model likewise field emission of electrons. On the other hand, a space-charge limited current model can be applied for some non-oxide glasses. Preparation and types of emitted ions, and ion emission mechanism will be discussed.
