Second-order nonlinear optical susceptibilities were examined for asymmetric dimers of metal nanoparticles. The confined and intense optical fields are generated in the nanogap spaces between the two neighboring nanoparticles at surface plasmon resonances. We examined the second-order nonlinearities due to the intense optical fields due to the gap plasmon modes. We tried operating the electric dipolar excitations by changing the sizes of the two particles and breaking the centro-symmetries.
