Recently, we have succeeded in preparing the radially-assembled and fibrously connecting carbon nanohorns, named as carbon nanobrushes (CNBs). CNBs have high dispersibility, large specific surface areas, and high electrical conductivity. Therefore, the CNBs are an excellent candidate for the electrode materials of various energy devices. CNBs are easily prepared by CO2 laser ablation of Fe-containing carbon target. However, the yield of CNBs is low and the major products are the spherical single-walled carbon nanohorns. In this study, we tried to prepare CNBs by using carbon target containing different catalysts other than Fe. We also investigated the influence of the density of the carbon target itself.
