We have developed an external force assisted near-field illumination (EFA-NI) biosensor. Because the EFA-NI biosensor detects moving optical signal by a sandwich assay using magnetic particles and optical markers, it can easily distinguish between signals and noises without washing and preprocessing steps. We repoted an experimental proof of sub-aM level detection using the EFA-NI biosensor. In this study, we applied a commonly used technique of immunoassays to the EFA-NI biosensor for improvement of the sensitivity. A nucleoproteins (NP) of influenza virus was used as the target instead of the virus particles. We successfly detected NPs at a concentration of single virus particle per 1 ml.
