Keywords:Smart contact lens, wireless power transfer system, 13.56MHz
Smart contact lens is a wearable device that wears on our eyes to monitor our health condition without losing vision correction. In 2016, Google developed a proto type of smart contact lens to monitor glucose level from tear1. Byung Hee Hong group developed graphene-coating contact lens for electromagnetic interference shielding2. Jang-Ung Park group developed a transparent wireless system using graphene-silver nanowire3. However, all attempts focused on electrical components mounted on hard contact lens although over 80% users wear soft contact lens. This is because the bonding between electronic components and soft contact lens is difficult. Here we present a wireless system mounted electrochemically on commercial available soft contact lens. Wireless system consists of Au wire antenna, which is 0.1 mm wire diameter and 12 mm antenna diameter, and 3300 pF capacitance. We measured the performance of our lens with network analyser and RLC measurement. After that, we designed a wireless system on eye glass and then confirmed power efficiency between soft contact lens and eye glass, which is over 25% with 10 mm radiation distance. Finally, we will demonstrate LED lighting on a pig eye with our wireless communication system.
