[17p-C303-8] [INVITED] Field Emission from Carbon Nanotube and Graphene

Three topics on nanocarbon materials related to field emission phenomena are presented: (1) development of a micro-focused projection type X-ray microscope hosted in a desktop scanning electron microscope with a carbon nanotube (CNT) field electron emitter, (2) formation and characterization of long linear carbon chains (carbynes) encapsulated inside CNTs, and (3) observations of localized electronic states at graphene edges by field emission/ion microscopy (FEM/FIM) and measurements of spin polarization of electrons emitted from a graphene edge.
