[17p-D101-8] Toward high-efficiency c-Si cells with very thin free-standing wafers

Using thinner wafers is one of the attractive options to reduce the cost and expand the market of c-Si solar cells. In fact, it is expected that high-efficiency c-Si cells can be realized even with very thin wafers below 30 um, according to the theoretical simulations. However, the potential of such thin c-Si solar cells has not been confirmed in experiment yet. In this study, we attempt to examine the potential of high-efficiency c-Si cells with very thin free-standing wafers, by using a-Si:H/c-Si heterojunction solar cell configuration.
