[17p-P11-35] Comparison of Water Solubility and Hydration Amount and Viscoelastic Property of Polymer Films in the Air Phase Measured by a Quartz-Crystal Oscillator with an Admittance Analysis
Keywords:quartz-crystal oscillator, polymer film interface, water interaction
Biocompatibility not stimulating biological materials, particularly proteins and cells, is required for medical-used polymer materials. Characterizing polymer materials based on water adsorption on their surface is important to understand biocompatibility mechanism. Using a quartz-crystal oscillator with dissipation technique, we can obtain a mass change and a change of an energy dissipation factor that can be reflected in viscoelasticity of the material on the quartz plate. In this study, we measured water adsorption amounts and viscoelastic properties of various polymer films in the air phase with this technique and then discussed characteristic of the biocompatible polymers compared with general polymers.
