We have developed a teaching aid for determining the work function of metals using a hollow-cathode lamp. Here we selected potassium for the cathode and tried to measure the limit wavelength of potassium atoms. From our experimental results, using the approximation with quantum efficiency of photoelectronemission from the surface of metal, we determined the limit wavelength of potassium to be 603 nm whch is larger than that of previously reported one ( 548 nm ). We will report the reasons for the difference between these limit wavelengths and the details of our experimental results under various physical conditions.
